An impressive brace by Frankie Runham saw Chelsea lift the Premier League U17s Cup at Molineux after a 3-1 victory over Wolves.
Both teams showed real character and quality throughout the game, but as the sun set on Molineux, so it also did on the Wanderers’ hopes of silverware, with Chelsea coming into their own in the latter stages despite our excellent showing.
The Blues looked the more threatening during a mostly even first half, and were rewarded for their efforts when Rio Ngumoha sent a speculative 22-yard effort goalward, before it nestled into the bottom right-hand corner on the stroke of halftime.
Despite this setback, Richard Walker’s side started the second half in the perfect way as Fraser Harper picked up possession on the edge of Chelsea’s box and saw his curling effort take a wicked deflection past Kai Crampton to level the score.
Wolves’ reprieve did not last long, however, as Runham restored the Blues’ lead with a fine strike across goal after cutting in from the edge of the penalty area.
Though the second half proved to be an open contest, it was Chelsea who added to their lead late in the game, as Runham secured a brace with an effort from the edge of the penalty area which filtered its way into the far-right bottom corner.
